Undergraduate Students

First year entry

Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.0 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL).

All students applying for a Bachelors (BA, BSc and LLB) degree at Winchester will be also be required hold one of the following qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a suitable one year UK Foundation programme from a recognised university or further education college
  • Holders of the European Baccalaureate with a minimum 6.5/65% depending on the subject chosen
  • Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma – a score of at least 24-26 is usually required

OR

  • Holders of the Maturitni Zkouška / Maturita will be considered for entry to Bachelor degree programmes.
  • Holders of the Diplomovan Specialista (Professional Title) from Vyssí Odborná Skola (Higher Professional School), also known as the Absolutorium, will be considered for entry onto Year 1 of Bachelor Degree courses.
  • Holders of the Bakalár may be considered for entry onto the 2nd or 3rd year of a Bachelor degree course. In exceptional cases entry to postgraduate diploma or Masters degree courses may be also considered

Postgraduate entry qualifications

Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to postgraduatedegree programmes is a minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 580 in Paper-based TOEFL, 237 in Computer-based TOEFL).

All students applying for a Masters degree (MA/MSc/MBA) at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree (Honours)
  • Applicants without a first degree but with 5-7 years relevant work experience may also be considered on an individual basis for some Masters programmes

OR

  • Holders of the Magister/Professional title will be considered for postgraduate study
  • For Masters/Research programmes at the University of Winchester, the Magistr (courses from 2001) is acceptable
