Undergraduate entry requirements

Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.0 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL).
All students applying for a Bachelors (BA/BSc/LLB) degree at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
- Successful completion of a UK Foundation in a suitable subject area, generally with 60-65% or above, depending on the subject area
- Successful completion of one year at a Malaysian university with good overall grades
- UEC (Unified Examination Certificate) Senior Middle Level with an overall mark of 75% or above
- Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM, Malaysia Higher School Certificate) with grades A to D on a subject-for-subject basis
- Matriculation Certificate (Matrikulasi) with a grade point average of 2.0 or above, depending on the subject area
- Polytechnic Diploma (three year post-SPM/SPVM)
- Polytechnic Technician Certificate with high grades
- Two to three year college diploma/certificate (post-SPM) with high grades
- Tunku Abdul Rahman College Certificate (two year post-SPM)
- Kolej Teknologi Federal Diploma (three year); Winchester may grant one year’s advanced standing when upper Second Class obtained
- Institut Teknologi MARA Diploma (three year post-SPM); Winchester may grant one year’s advanced standing (second year entry) on to appropriate undergraduate programmes where ITM diploma holders have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
- Institut Teknologi MARA Diploma (three year post-STPM)/Tunku Abdul Rahman College Diploma (three year post-STPM); Winchester will consider for second year entry on to an appropriate undergraduate programme
- The Kolej Teknologi Federal (Federal College of Technology) (three year diploma); holders may be considered for second year entry of suitable UK degree with Second Class upper division plus
Personal statement
Undergraduate students must supply the University with a detailed personal statement explaining why you want to join the University of Winchester and why the programme you are applying for interests you. You will also need to supply the University of Winchester with an academic reference which should be on official headed paper and notarised where possible.
Postgraduate entry requirements
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 580 in Paper-based TOEFL, 237 in Computer-based TOEFL).
All students applying for a Masters degree (MA/MSc/MBA) at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
- A Malaysian Bachelor degree from a recognised institution with a GPA of 2.8 or above, depending on the subject area
- A college diploma with three to five years additional relevant work experience
- Applicants with STPM and five to seven years relevant work experience may be considered on an individual basis for some programmes
