Undergraduate entry requirements

Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.0 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL). A score of 3 or better in the English element of Generell Studiekompetanse will also be considered to have met the University’s minimum English language requirement.
All students applying for a Bachelors (BA/BSc/LLB) degree at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
- Students who have successfully completed a suitable UK foundation programme (normally with a minimum of 60% and above)
- Holders of the Generell Studiekompetanse (Upper Secondary Leaving Certificate) will be considered for admission to first degree programmes, normally with grades of 3/6 depending on the subject area
- Holders of the European Baccalaureate with a minimum 6.5 or 65% depending on the subject chosen
- Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum 26 depending on the subject chosen
- Applicants who have successfully completed Year One or Year Two of the Sivilokonom at the Norwegian School of Management will be considered for entry to undergraduate courses
- Holders of the Hogskole Kandidat from a District College will be considered for entry to undergraduate degree courses and may be given entry to second year of a suitable degree programme
Personal statement
Students must supply the University with a detailed personal statement explaining why you want to join the University of Winchester and why the programme you are applying for interests you. You will also need to supply the University of Winchester with an academic reference, which should be from on official headed paper and notarised where possible.
Postgraduate entry requirements
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to postgraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 580 in Paper-based TOEFL, 237 in Computer-based TOEFL). A score of 3 or better in the English element of Generell Studiekompetanse will also be considered to have met the University’s minimum English language requirement.
All students applying for a Masters degree (MA/MSc/MBA) at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
- Holders of the Candidatus Magisterii or Siviløkonom (economics) will be considered for entry to postgraduate study
- Holders of a Bachelors degree will be considered for entry to postgraduate study
- Applicants without a first degree but with five or more years of relevant work experience may also be considered on an individual basis for some Masters programmes
