Undergraduate entry requirements

Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to undergraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.0 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 560 in Paper-based TOEFL, 220 in Computer-based TOEFL).
All students applying for a Bachelors (BA/BSc/LLB) degree at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
- Successful completion of a suitable one year UK Foundation programme from a recognised university or further education college
- Successful completion of one year at a university in Taiwan (GPA 2.8 or above)
- Junior College Diploma (candidates with very good results from well-recognised institutions or junior colleges/departments within colleges may be considered for second year entry onto a Bachelors degree)
Personal statement
Students must supply the University with a detailed personal statement explaining why you want to join the University of Winchester and why the programme you are applying for interests you. You will also need to supply the University of Winchester with an academic reference, which should be from on official headed paper and notarised where possible.
Postgraduate entry requirements
Students whose first language is not English may be asked to provide evidence of English Language ability when applying to the University of Winchester. The requirement for admission to postgraduate degree programmes is a minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS (International English Language Teaching System) including a minimum score of 6.5 in Academic Writing, or an equivalent qualification (for example 580 in Paper-based TOEFL, 237 in Computer-based TOEFL).
All students applying for a Masters degree (MA/MSc/MBA) at Winchester should hold one of the following qualifications:
- Holders of a four year Bachelors degree will be considered for graduate entry. Students from a well-recognised and established private university or national university should obtain 70% or above in the final year of their degree. Students from a new private university will be required to obtain 80% or above. Students with grades slightly below this may still be considered on an individual bases, especially where they have relevant work experience
- Holders of a three year Junior College Diploma followed by a two year "top-up degree programme" at a recognized higher education institution with grade requirements as above
- A Masters degree
