Foundation Programme for International Students

A one year full-time International Foundation Programme (IFP) which provides a foundation and bridging year for international students who are not yet in a position to enter directly onto an undergraduate programme at a British university.

Within a very enriching year of study, the programme prepares international students for the challenges of a full-time degree programme in a British university. It provides such a stimulating and productive year of study of both English and other subjects that some students take it as a ‘stand-alone’ programme because they do not intend to go on to study for an undergraduate degree.

A little over half the class contact time is allocated to the study of English, involving both English for Academic Purposes and General English. The first semester has other modules which focus on British culture and on study skills related to the use of Information Technology. In the second semester, there are also subject-based modules, with an optional choice between a module about Information Technology and an IELTS preparation module, plus two introductory modules selected from the possibilities of Business Management, Tourism & Heritage Management, Media & Film Studies and Psychology (NB option availability is subject to there being sufficient student take-up).
