Pre-sessional courses

These courses are the final stage of preparation for international students who are planning to start an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme in the coming academic year.

5 weeks pre-sessional course: 13 August - 14 September 2012

10 weeks pre-sessional course: 9 July - 21 September 2012

Pre-sessional courses provide the opportunity for students to:

Improve their academic English so that they will be able to study effectively on their degree programme
Work in a focused way on specific language skills
Develop their study skills and become successfully oriented within a British university environment
Do some preliminary study of their subject with free access to the University’s learning resources

There is an enjoyable social programme in order to extend the opportunities to use English. Both courses are full-time.

Entry requirements for the 5 - week pre-sessional course

For undergraduate entrants an IELTS score of 5.5, TOEFL 530 (197 in CBT and 70 in IBT) or equivalent is required. For postgraduate entrants an IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL 560 (220 in CBT and 85 in IBT) or equivalent.

Entry requirements for the 10 - week pre-sessional course

For undergraduate entrants an IELTS score of 5.0, TOEFL 500 (170 in CBT and 60 in IBT) or equivalent is required.For postgraduate entrants an IELTS score of 5.5, TOEFL 530 (197 in CBT and 70 in IBT) or equivalent.

Qualification upon completion

Qualification on completion of either course in September is a University Certificate, giving eligibility to begin a degree programme at Winchester or at other universities subject to their acceptance procedures.

5 weeks pre-sessional: £1,425

10 weeks pre-sessional: £2,850
