Research interests
Plamen's research focuses on the role of credit institutions in economic development. Adopting a Schumpeterian approach to money, credit and banking, he examines the evolution of leading monetary ecosystems (e.g. Britain, Germany and China) through space and time.
His research clearly documents the importance of the purpose of bank credit as an explanatory variable in economic development and in the process defines the business models of nation states. Both the quantitative results and qualitative analysis, he generates, confirm that the banking mechanism can be so designed to promote either shared prosperity and wealth creation or rent extraction from the many to the few.
