Biography

Phill is Senior Lecturer in Leadership & Management. He lectures on a part-time basis, as part of a portfolio of activies, which includes - working as a Business Mentor to SMES, on behalf of Dormen (a Dorset-based mentoring organisation); supporting the activies of the Cranfield Trust in advising charities on governance issues; and volunteering with a national environmental charity (the Bumblebee Conservation Trust) as a member of the Board of Trustees.

He has a first degree in Economics (Hull University) and a Master's Degree in Contemporary Global Studies (University of Winchester).  Phill also studied Career Counselling and Consultancy (at Birkbeck, University of London).

Prior to working in the HE Sector Phill worked for a number of international commercial organisations, whose activities spanned non-food retailing, service retailing (pubs and restaurants), manufacturing (packaging industry) and food processing. For most of his business career Phill has operated in the field of human resource management, with particular focus on organisational development and employee relations.  Phill's early career was in business improvement (industrial engineering) and internal supply chain management.

Phill has worked with a number of Schools as a School Governor, as well as being a Board Member of a number of Charities and Social Enterprises. In these roles he has had exposure to the challenges of business planning and governance. He has a particular interest in how such organisations demonstrate the impact and added-value of their activities.

In terms of teaching qualifications, Phill studied a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Portsmouth University.  He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
