Daniel is a researcher currently undertaking a three-year evaluation into the provision of support for young carers across Hampshire. A former teacher, Daniel has worked in the field of young carers for over 17 years, firstly as a manager of a local young carer service (2001-2008), before working at a national level as a Project & Development Manager for Carers Trust (formally The Princess Royal Trust for Carers) (2008-2016).
Daniel has supported the development of policy and practice for young and young adult carers in the UK and has a particular interest in the provision of support for young carers through their education. In his previous role at Carers Trust, Daniel led on the first national Young Carers Awareness Day in the UK (2014) and on a Department for Education-funded project (2015-2016) to support local authorities’ implementation of the duties related to young carers and their families, required under the Care Act 2014 and the Children and Families Act 2014.
Daniel sat on the National Young Carers Coalition (2008-2016); he is currently an Observer Member of Eurocarers and sits on an international advisory group in Switzerland. Daniel is also a consultant in the field of young carers and is currently working on the Horizon 2020 ME-WE project (psychosocial support for promoting mental health and wellbeing among adolescent young carers in Europe) for Careum Research, the research centre of the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences, Department of Health Science in Zurich.
