Located just minutes from the beautiful cathedral city centre, the University has built an established reputation as an excellent venue for conferences, priding ourselves on our first-class facilities and our high standard of customer service.

Whether you are looking to organise a residential conference for 300 delegates with multiple syndicate rooms or a smaller day meeting, we can offer competitive day delegate and 24-hour residential packages, which can be tailored to fit the requirements for your event.
Split across two campuses, both close to each other, the University has a wide range of buildings available equipped to meet all your conference needs. The striking Stripe Building, for example, has an auditorium, lecture theatre and flexible studios. While the award-winning and environmentally friendly St Alphege Building offers eight bright and modern classrooms, most with flexible setups.

All catering is provided by our own in-house team of inspired and professional chefs. We are proud to be able to offer a wide range of menus – from a light buffet to a three-course dinner – using fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced from Hampshire and neighbouring counties. In addition, we are champions of organic, free-range and ethically sourced food and drink. Flexibility and innovation are integral to our offering.
We have a wide range of individual and group accommodation with ensuite rooms available to suit different requirements and budgets.

Our facilities

The Stripe building

With an auditorium seating up to 300, a large foyer and additional areas for refreshments or exhibitions, the Stripe Building located on our King Alfred Campus is a popular option for large conferences and events.

St Alphege building

Officially opened in 2014, the St Alphege Building is our newest learning and teaching block. The building has won numerous awards for its unique design and environmentally friendly features.

St Edburga building

Originally built in the 1970s, the St Edburga Building has recently undertaken an extensive refurbishment and is now adjoined to the St Alphege Building.

The University Centre

With its unique shaped roof and RIBA award-winning status, you can't miss the University Centre located on our Main Campus on Sparkford Road.

Main building

Built in the 18th century, the Main Building is our oldest building and is centrally located on the King Alfred Campus. Having undertaken recent refurbishment works, the building now offers a range of meeting rooms and lecture theatres.

  • 3 boardrooms with flexible setup, each seating up to 20
  • 1 lecture theatre seating up to 75 (chairs with writing arms)
  • State of the art AV equipment in all boardrooms and lecture theatres
  • 4 small meeting rooms each seating 2 - 6 - ideal for interviews

West Downs centre

The West Downs Centre was originally an 18th Century boys boarding school. The building was refurbished in 2001 to become a light and modern conference centre whilst retaining many of its original Victorian features.

  • Shakespeare Room - traditional style lecture theatre seating 150. Outside of term time, the room has a flexible setup and can cater for weddings, parties and banquet dinners
  • West Downs 2 - traditional style lecture theatre seating 150. Outside of term time, the room has a flexible setup and can cater for wedding ceremonies or other events
  • Over 10 flexible breakout rooms seating between 18 to 70
  • Link Gallery - large spacious foyer area, ideal for exhibitions, catering or registration

Performance studios

Our Performance Studios are located on our King Alfred Campus and are ideal for rehearsals, youth groups or active workshops.

Please note that all rooms listed below are disabled accessible, and the AV facilities include a network PC, screen, projector, sound system and DVD player. Some rooms contain lectern mics - additional mics can be hired upon request.
