Undergraduate and returning students

How to apply

When making an application for accommodation the student has the chance to list their preference choices in order of which accommodation they would most like to secure.

Full time prospective undergraduate students

We encourage all students to apply as early as possible to have the best chance of securing a preference choice.  We allocate on a ‘first applied, first allocated’ basis in date order and we aim to offer students their preference choices. However, if a student’s preference choice isn’t available (even if they apply by the deadline date) there is the possibility of being offered lower cost, lower standard, shared facilities or off campus accommodation (including any new accommodation acquired between now and the start of the academic term) as our guarantee of accommodation is for a room and not a specific type of room.

We recommend that you read about all the accommodation you can choose from prior to starting the application process. For information on all available accommodation types, please visit this page.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an email to confirm the application has been received by Student Housing Services. If you do not receive an email within 1 hour, please contact us as this may mean that your application has not come through to the University.

We would encourage you to make an application using the link below. We are hopeful that we can offer you a room in university managed or approved university nominated accommodation, subject to availability. If this is not possible, we also offer support and guidance in finding alternative accommodation in the private rented sector.

Please read through the Application Guidance 2018 for further information.

Mature applicants (24+)

We endeavour to assign accommodation areas across our entire portfolio to mature applicants and allocate these students together.  We consider mature applicants to be 24 years of age or above.  Please note that once the accommodation areas for mature students are full, we offer the next available room which may be with residents aged 18 or above.

Returning undergraduate students

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer University housing to returning undergraduate students (2nd / 3rd / 4th years). However, we can offer help and advice to help you secure suitable housing in the private rented sector in Winchester.
Please use the Winchester Student Pad website to help with your search for accommodation. This site contains local listings of houses and rooms in and around Winchester and is administrated by the University of Winchester's Landlord Forum. It also has a message board to allow students to advertise their rooms or to advertise their need for a room.

A password is required to access the search results. To obtain this, please send an email to housing@winchester.ac.uk  and include your Winchester Reference Number / Username (the seven digit number given in all Winchester correspondence).

If you need any more help or have any questions, please contact us.
