Undergraduate including Channel Islands

How to apply

The deadline to submit housing applications for 2019-20 entry has now passed.  We are still accepting applications for housing from prospective first year undergraduate students but unfortunately cannot guarantee to be able to offer you a room in University housing.

You will automatically be placed on a waiting list and offered a room once one becomes available (usually through another student declining their place or not arriving).  Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee to offer you a room before the start of term and so if you cannot commute initially you may wish to look at alternative options in the private rented sector or consider taking temporary accommodation while you remain on the waiting list.  By submitting your application you will automatically be placed on an email mailing list to receive information and advice about getting in touch with other students and house hunting in Winchester.  If you haven’t received an email within a week of submitting your application, please contact us.

The University guarantees a room in University Managed Accommodation (this includes our entire portfolio of on campus and off campus private house properties) to first year full-time undergraduates whose housing application is received by Student Housing Services by 31 May 2019.

In order to apply for housing, you must have selected Winchester as your FIRM choice (usually through UCAS).  If you have only just accepted your place (gone FIRM), please allow at least 24-48 hours for your acceptance to register with us.

When making an application for accommodation the student has the chance to list their preference choices in order of which accommodation they would most like to secure.

Apply for 2019/20 accommodation by registering on our Housing Portal.

To decide which options you would like to apply for, please view the ‘What’s on Offer?’ webpage via the navigation bar above.

If you experience any problems with the system, please email housing@winchester.ac.uk or call us on 01962 827533

Full time prospective undergraduate students

We encourage all students to apply as early as possible to have the best chance of securing a preference choice. We allocate on a ‘first applied, first allocated’ basis in date order and we aim to offer students their preference choices. However, if a student’s preference choice isn’t available (even if they apply by the deadline date) there is the possibility of being offered a different room type to their preferences.

More information can be found within our Service Aim and Accommodation Guarantees.

We recommend that you read about all the accommodation you can choose from prior to starting the application process. Discover what's on offer.

Returning undergraduate students

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer University housing to returning undergraduate students (2nd/3rd/4th years). However, we can offer help and advice to help you secure suitable housing in the private rented sector in Winchester.

Please use Winchester Student Pad to help with your search for accommodation. This site contains local listings of houses and rooms in and around Winchester and is administrated by the University of Winchester's Landlord Forum. It also has a message board to allow students to advertise their rooms or to advertise their need for a room.

A password is required to access the search results. To obtain this, please send an email to housing@winchester.ac.uk  and include your Winchester Reference Number / Username (the seven digit number given in all Winchester correspondence).

If you need any more help or have any questions, please contact us.

Insurance applicants

You are only eligible to apply for accommodation if you have made Winchester your firm first choice. Once results have been issued in August and you know you are coming to Winchester, check our website or contact Student Housing Services to find out what you need to do next.

If we are not able to offer you a room in University housing, we will provide information and advice about finding accommodation off-campus and have set up Facebook pages and contact lists to keep you in touch with other new students. We are also able to provide you with access to available properties and rooms via our Winchester student pad website. You are able to apply to be placed on a waiting list for University accommodation (on or off campus) as it comes up throughout the first term.

Foundation Year full-time students

Please see guidance above due to the deadline to submit housing applications for 2019-20 entry having now passed.

Accommodation is normally available for students beyond their Foundation Year provided they are enrolled as full-time undergraduates, subject to availability and students reapplying for accommodation in each subsequent year by the deadlines published here on the website.
