Join our experts as they reflect on a royal wedding feast from 1403 which was held to celebrate the wedding of Henry IV and his bride, Joan of Navarre. The king was keen to use this opportunity to ‘splash the cash’ and project majesty, to impress not only his bride but his subjects - some of whom were a bit wary considering that only a few years prior he had taken the throne from his cousin Richard II. Amazingly, the menu from this historical event has survived, so we know exactly which lavish dishes which were served to their guests over 600 years ago.

This contextual talk from medieval historians Professor Chris Woolgar and Dr Ellie Woodacre, will explore medieval feasting and the background of the wedding itself.
