CANCELLED - Tavern Talk: The Culture of State Surveillance in Cinema

Tuesday 17 March 2020, 6pm
St James' Tavern, 3 Romsey Road, Winchester SO22 5BE

Dr Mark de Valk, Senior Lecturer, School of Media and Film

In light of current circumstances, we have decided to cancel this talk. Please keep an eye on the events page for the rearranged date.

Governments and corporations employ a myriad of people to research, analyse and design algorithms to glean personal information and monitor our actions. What impact has this culture of public surveillance had on society and the individual? Has the individual and society now fully acquiesced to this perpetual surveillance?

Mark is Senior Lecturer in the School of Media & Film at the University of Winchester and is author of ‘Screening the Tortured Body’ and co-author of ‘The Film Handbook’.

Tavern Talks welcome all who wish to participate. They feature short talks followed by opportunities for discussion.
There is no charge for entry, though numbers are limited by the size of the venue.
