Designing a Feminist Internet
Thursday 15 February
Stripe Studio 1, King Alfred Campus, University of Winchester, Sparkford Road, Winchester, Hampshire SO22 4NR
This talk will be delivered by Dr Charlotte Webb, University of the Arts London.
In September 2017, 16 UAL students and graduates took part in the Feminist Internet Studio, a 10-day educational experience addressing issues of gender inequality and technology. Our mission was to create a Feminist Internet Manifesto and prototype creative projects embodying its principles.
With a series of learning partners including design agencies, artists, data streamers and activists, we collaboratively researched, ideated, prototyped and exchanged until we completed our mission.
The Feminist Internet Studio is part of UAL Futures, a University-wide initiative exploring the futures of art and design education. UAL Futures’ purpose is to enable University of the Arts London to adapt to the transformative effects of emerging technology on creative practice, careers, and creative learning and teaching.
This talk will share insights and projects from the Feminist Internet Studio, introduce our interpretation of ‘Speculative Pedagogy’, and consider the changing demands on Higher Education institutions brought about by disruptive digital technologies and emerging educational models.
The event is hosted by the Centre for Philosophy of Education and the South Coast Branch of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain.
