Title: Optimising outcomes after knee surgery

Undergoing knee surgery for osteoarthritis is the last resort for people wanting relief from what can often be years of debilitating pain. Many patients have high expectations for the outcome of their surgery regarding pain reduction, return to work and activity, and an improvement in quality-of-life. However, there are many variables that can impact the degree to which an individual experiences a successful surgical outcome including: the type of surgery, the technique used, any peri-operative complications, acute post-operative pain management, and various lifestyle factors. This talk will discuss each of these variables and provide insight into some of the contentious issues that exist around them. It will also present findings from some of the research James is currently conducting to try and provide greater clarity towards optimising outcomes after knee surgery.

All welcome.
