Our world faces many challenges - there is turbulence and uncertainty in many areas across the globe. Last year the UN backed Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) celebrated its 10th Anniversary and we witnessed the universal adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). How can business and management education contribute towards the SDGs, in creating a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable world?
These goals include ending poverty and hunger, providing universal quality education, reducing inequalities and action on climate change. PRME's vision is to realise these goals through responsible management education. In this lecture, Professor Parkes will explore the ground-breaking work taking place across the world and the challenges in doing this.
Carole Parkes is Professor of Responsible Management Education at the University of Winchester Business School (a PRME Champion School) and is a Special Advisor to the UN for PRME. She has both a business and an academic background. In July 2017, at the 10th Anniversary PRME Global Forum UN Reception, Carole was presented with a PRME Pioneer Award ‘for her leadership and commitment to the development of PRME’ and her appointment as Special Advisor to the UN was announced.
Carole is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Management Education and is an editor for Greenleaf Publishing and Sage publications. She is an Inaugural Fellow of the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges. Carole was previously Director of Social Responsibility & Sustainability at Aston University, where she developed and led ethics, responsibility and sustainability across all schools in the University. She was also invited to be the Christopher Chair in Business Ethics at Dominican University in Chicago and, a ‘Researcher in Residence’ at PRME in New York.
