The Hyde Abbey King Alfred Project
Saturday 22 October
Hyde Parish Hall, 55 Hyde St, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 7DY
Developing a visitors’ information area in the precincts of Hyde Abbey
Hyde Abbey and King Alfred are the missing links in Winchester’s story of ‘Kings and Scribes’. Without appreciating the crucial importance of King Alfred and his Interactive information board burial-place, first in New Minster and then in (Debs Wilson, University of Winchester) Hyde Abbey, the full scope of Winchester’s significance in the history of England cannot be understood. Hyde900 founder Edward Fennell will report on developments since the initial announcement at last year’s King Alfred Weekend, and plans for now realising this important project.
Numbers limited to 25. Booking essential. No charge.
