Unite Foundation Scholarship

Rent free accomodation in university halls

Having somewhere of your own to call home matters.

In 2024 we have partnered with the Unite Foundation to offer up to six Unite Foundation Scholarships to estranged and care experienced undergraduate degree students.

Unite Scholars will have free year-round accommodation in one of our University Halls for up to three years. The University will provide a designated student advisor throughout your studies and the Unite Foundation team will help you settle in, keep in touch and offer opportunities for employment and enjoyment.

Eligibility

Students applying must be:

• care leaver or students whom are estranged from their parents and recognised as such by student finance and    
• aged 25 or under on 1 September of the year of application and
• undertaking first and only course of undergraduate study and
• holding a firm choice offer from, the University and    
• entering into their first year of their undergraduate degree at the start of the scholarship and                                                                                       
• UK home fee status student, i.e. not an international student and
• in receipt of, or applying for, student finance/NHS funding reflecting care leaver/care experienced/estranged student status

Study years not supported are:

• foundation years
• years involving study credits toward a Masters whether that be post graduate or integrated with a Bachelors
• repeat years
• repeat years arising as a result of changing courses
• years in which the students is aged 26 or older at 1 September  

The University offers many bursaries and scholarships and to ensure a fair distribution of funding, there are some restrictions on who can receive mulitple awards. Recipients of the Unite Foundation Scholarship are not eligible to receive the King Alfred Bursary or the Stand Alone Bursary.
