5 minutes with ... Phil Hatch

What are you up to these days?

These days I work in field marketing for the UKs biggest boardgame distributor. I travel to events all over the country, leading teams from 10 - 150 memvers of staff to promote the tabletop gaming hobby.

Favourite Uni memory

My favourite uni memory comes from the module Writing for the radio. This was one of the final year modules and the creative piece I submitted was a script for a radio play. It was a pirate horror story. We were workshoping and reading the script aloud, and when one of my classmates got so into her role as the spooky ghost girl even I got creeped out by her reading the dialogue I had written!

Advice for new students

My advice for new students is pursue what you are passionate about, and don't give up. If you can't have fun with your writing then how will anyone have fun reading it?

Best thing about UoW

The city isnt far, the hills give a great view and you can walk for twenty minutes from campus and be staring into a clear fresh water or rich woodland. All while having a mainline rail station to London. It's accessible, beautiful and a great environment to foster creative thinking and learning.

Guilty pleasure

I would say survival gadgets but I dont even feel guilty- just well prepared. Flints for lighting fires, compass set in a paracord bracelet made from several metres of compiled woven rope, the list is growing. Bring it on Apocalypse.
