This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, not only to learn more about the dangers of climate change on our planet, but also to witness the incredible talent the students of The University of Winchester have to offer.
On Monday 11th March 2019 at 7:30 pm, the Theatre Royal Winchester will be playing host to an evening of eye-opening plays, focusing on the seriousness of climate change in the world today, and make us ‘question our own place in the world.’

With sea levels rising 3.2 millimetres per year and global temperate having risen by 1.8 Fahrenheit since 1880, the serious subject of climate change is being presented live on stage by a number of The University of Winchester’s most talented playwrights. This evening at the Theatre Royal will feature the original plays by these university students which focus on the human stories that are at the centre of the global issue of climate change.

Glenn Fosbraey, a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Winchester and Stephen Hall, the head of Performing Arts at the University, came up with the first initial idea for the project. “There will be four short, stand-alone plays, each with an umbrella theme of climate change,” explains Glenn during an interview regarding Climate 4 Change. Normally, the shows created by the university for the Theatre Royal Winchester would focus on different re-enactments of Shakespeare’s classic plays. However, this year, Glenn and Steven decided they wanted to take a different route and choose a new theme to cover, something that would perhaps speak to the audience so that they left the theatre with a message. Climate Change fit perfectly with the university ethos and was a theme which would have a positive impact on the audience, so it was the ideal choice.

Each of the four Climate 4 Change plays are written by someone different, either by a student who is currently studying creative writing at the University of Winchester, or a graduate of this course. The plays will be brought to life live on stage by drama students from the university, and will directed by Glenn, Stephen and Creative Writing graduates Summer Young and Jack Stacey.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, not only to learn more about the dangers of Climate Change, but also to witness the incredible talent the students of The University of Winchester have to offer.

Tickets for Climate 4 Change are on sale now here, with a set price of £5 per ticket.
