Biography

Anna Chaussée is a Senior Lecturer in Forensics and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Anna is a Professional Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (accredited) through her case work experience in forensic archaeology since 2008.

Anna is the Director of the University's Cold Case Unit which re-examines cases of unidentified human remains and missing persons.

Anna has been involved in the search and recovery of human remains subjected to clandestine deposition (criminal) and cemetery clearances (civil). She has conventional archaeological excavation experience from the UK, USA and Turkey. Anna has provided forensic archaeology and disaster awareness training for the relicensing of search officers involving several police forces in the south of England. Anna is also an independent consultant (team member) at Kenyon International. In 2020 Anna held a Public Appointment by the Ministry of Justice as a member of the Independent Monitoring Board tasked with monitoring the dignity and welfare of prisoners.

Anna received her BA (Hons) Archaeology and Ancient History degree from the University of Exeter (2007) and completed her MSc in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology at The Defence Academy of the UK (Cranfield University) (2008). Anna is currently working towards a PhD in a taxonomy of clandestine depositions and she publishes on forensic archaeology in the academic domain. Anna has worked with production teams internationally consulting for scripts, documentaries, and drama for film and television.

Before joining the University of Winchester, Anna was a Lecturer in Forensic Science at Glyndwr University (North Wales) and taught traditional archaeology and forensics programmes at University of Exeter, and Continuing Education departments at the University of Reading and Oxford University. Anna has won several awards for her teaching and is the department lead for teaching and learning.
