Biography

Richard Kapend is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology within the department of Policing, Criminology and Forensic, Faculty of Law, Crime and Justice. Richard has extensive research and teaching experience within Criminology, Criminal Justice and Quantitative Research Methods.

Richard Kapend holds a PhD in Social Statistics; a MSc in Demography and a BSc in Criminology and Psychological Studies, all of these from the University of Southampton. Richard's work pushes boundaries on varying methods of data handling and analysis. These, include reconstructing missing data using regression and projections techniques with the aim to solve practical problems related to population and criminal justice.

Richard has authored and co-authored a number of academic articles on various issues including assessing the extent and scope of excess mortality linked to armed conflicts, victims' account of the impact of computer misuse crime, gender and cyber crime types, exploring investigative private policing beyond the police, to name but a few.

Richard Kapend has supervised a number of successful dissertations at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Richard has supervised and co-supervised a number of PhD and Prodoc Theses to successful completion.
