Biography

Marta Paglioni is Senior Lecturer in Health and Wellbeing in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care, part of the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.

She completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts in the Faculty of Humanities (2014) at La Sapienza, University of Rome?and a Master of Arts in Dramatherapy (2016) at Roehampton University, London. She also obtained a Diploma in Acting (2002) at the Theatre Academy in Rome.

She has been a postgraduate clinical researcher for the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of Bournemouth University. Granted with a match-funded clinical studentship (Bournemouth University and NHS) to research in the field of Compassionate Communication with older patients in Emergency Department.

She runs a private Dramatherapy practice, The Cosy Room Dramatherapy, working therapeutically with adults, children and adolescents.

She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Yeovil District Hospital

November 2019 - The Hero’s Journey workshop – using stories for health and wellbeing - on behalf of Yeovil District Hospital in the context of Yeovil Literary Festival;

October 2019 - delivering sessions as part of the HOPE training, on the experience of occupational deprivation of older people for Yeovil District Hospital’s clinical staff;

March 2019 - workshop on ‘The Importance of Listening to Patients’ Stories’ as part of a Dementia Study day, for Yeovil District Hospital’sclinical staff;

October 2018 “The storytelling Project” workshop – using stories for health and wellbeing - as part of the Dementia Team of Yeovil District Hospital, on occasion of the Yeovil Literary Festival;

2007 – 2010, Glottodrama method project, experimental part
Planning and co-leading GLOTTODRAMA sessions (www.glottodrama.eu) for students of UNIVERSITY of Rome TOR VERGATA, a project funded by European Community that involved the use of theatre and drama for teaching Italian language as a second language to foreign students. Part of the experimental stage of the project saw me involved in crafting original teaching material which subsequently became part of the syllabus (Rome, Italy).

June 2019, The Alec Collier Memorial Award
Awarded for research that will have a positive impact on older people and on those living with Dementia;

July 2019, British Society of Gerontology, Stirling Prize - highly commended - Competition for the best poster at the annual conference of the British Society of Gerontology.
