Eduroam

Eduroam

We are a member of the international eduroam federation. Eduroam provides secure wireless access for Winchester staff and students and visitors from participating institutions.

Winchester staff and students can also use wireless services at other member organisations. Further information is available from the JANET and http://www.eduroam.org websites. All users must abide by the University of Winchester IT Acceptable Use Policy.

Information for visitors to the University of Winchester

If your home institution is a member of the eduroam service you should be able to use the wireless network at Winchester.

Eduroam at Winchester is a wireless-only service; to use the service here you will need a wireless network client that supports the authentication protocol used by your home institution (usually EAP/PEAP or EAP/TTLS). Most up-to-date computer operating systems (Windows, Macintosh, Linux) and some smartphones support these. Eduroam can be accessed in all areas where the wireless service is available.

We strongly recommend that you configure your laptop or other mobile devices before visiting the University of Winchester, as support for authentication problems can only be provided by your home site.

Information for University of Winchester users visiting other institutions

Before visiting the institution, check that they participate in eduroam on the UK member institution list.

When visiting other sites, connect to the wireless network ‘eduroam’. If your laptop or mobile device is already configured to access eduroam, it should connect automatically.

You should configure your laptop or other mobile devices before visiting other sites, as support for problems can only be provided by the Winchester Helpdesk +44 (0) 1962 827654. In particular, you should check that your University password will not expire while you are away.

The institution you are visiting is not responsible for resolving authentication problems.
