This module will focus on decision making that underpins clinical assessment and treatment of mental ill health and is applicable for health and social care professionals wishing to develop advanced level skills in mental health care in non-mental health settings.

Course overview

The course involves 18 hours of contact time delivered over 5 days (blended learning).

This module is aimed at practising health and care professionals who are in roles in non-mental health settings requiring, or will require, advanced skills in recognising and treating mental ill health presentations.

Successful completion of this module will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and clinical skills required to identify and respond to a mental health presentation and be involved in formulating a safe, evidence based and collaborative treatment plan. Students will critically reflect on how theories of education and leadership impact on leading and managing their teams and services.

Course details

This course is led by experienced mental health professionals, who provide preparatory activities, classroom teaching, group work and workshops, to aid your learning.

The summative assessment at the end of the course, is to complete a case study and present this to your peers and a course tutor.  

The case study will outline the theory and practise of the identification and development of a treatment plan for a patient presenting with mental ill health in a non-mental health setting.
