It’s a win-win…sports injury clinic provides free treatment for patients and hands-on learning for students

19 Oct 2026

If you’re suffering with a sporting injury, chronic pain or simply wanting to move and feel better in everyday life, our free sports injury clinic at the University of Winchester delivered and supervised by Sports Therapy students could help you while providing valuable real-life learning experiences for students.

The University Sports Therapy Clinic, which is open to both students and staff as well as the public, will be running Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2 to 5pm.  Sessions take place at the West Downs Centre Room 202B.

The service is delivered by third-year Sports Therapy students under the supervision of an experienced Sports Therapist.

The clinic provides individualised musculoskeletal assessment and examination, treatment, advise and personalised exercise guidance to support you feeling and performing better.

Each session involves one of three groups of eight sports therapy third year students.

Students greet their patients at the door and carry out a consultation and assessment before administering any treatment. They also give advice on exercises for their patients and book follow-up appointments if required.

Sports Therapy students are required to complete 250 hours of professional placement in their third-year placement module and their time assessing and treating patients at the sports therapy injury clinic will help go towards these hours as well as developing student’s skills and knowledge.

“This clinic plays a vital role in giving our students the opportunity to experience real-life patients and clinical scenarios, helping to prepare them for professional practice within the sports therapy environment,” said Amber Clare, Lecturer in Sports Therapy.
