This year’s Winchester Fashion Week (17-21 March) will be run by students from the University of Winchester.
Third Years on the Fashion Business and Marketing Course, are organising the event which has been embedded into their course as part of the University’s commitment to practical, real-world learning.
First- and second-year students will also be involved in supporting events, many of which will take place on campus.
The highlight of the week, which has an underlying theme of sustainable fashion, is set to be Fashion Reset on 19 March. This evening event at the West Down Centre will bring together industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers to explore what sustainability really means across the fashion industry including retail, second-hand markets, beauty, and beyond.
Fashion week kicks off with Mindful Fashion Monday on 17 March. Staged at the West Downs Centre, the event will challenge students to ‘Rewear, Restyle, and Reinvent’ items from their existing wardrobe.
On 20 March the University’s Business School hosts a Styling Masterclass with Donna Taylor, stylist and fashion editor, who has worked with brands such as Burberry and Glasses Direct. To book tickets for this event, follow this link.
Sustainable Style, Viral Impact is the title of a workshop on 21 March at West Downs for anyone who want to learn the secrets of successful social media campaigning.
Marina Brkljac, Programme Leader and Lecturer, Fashion Business and Marketing, University of Winchester said: “Fashion isn’t just about style or the latest trend for us, it’s about vision, leadership, and the ability to turn ideas into impact.
“At the University of Winchester, we are not simply educating students; we are preparing them to lead. Winchester Fashion Week is more than an event, it’s a proving ground, where our students step out of the classroom and into the industry, refining their instincts, sharpening their skills, and making their mark.”
In previous years Winchester BID (business Improvement District) has run fashion week. Their manager Sarah Davis said she was excited to be handing over the reins to the students.
“With a spotlight on sustainability and business engagement, this event gives us the opportunity to showcase not just the work of the students as they prepare for the world of work, but also how city centre businesses are adapting to the challenges posed by the need for sustainable clothing. We look forward to seeing what both parties deliver,” said Sarah.
Three charities will benefit from fashion week – Naomi House, the Dogs Trust and Oxfam. All have stores in the city and will be promoting fashion week with their window displays.
