What brings you to clearing?

My grades are lower than expected

If your grades were lower than anticipated, don't assume university is out of reach. Our admissions team reviews individual applications, considering factors beyond just UCAS points, including your experience and passion for the subject.

Explore our Clearing course listings; a different degree or a Foundation Year might be a suitable alternative. Foundation Years provide a structured pathway to build academic skills, bridging any gaps before progressing to your full degree.

For personalised advice, contact our Clearing team directly. They will offer guidance to help you understand your specific opportunities at Winchester.

I've changed my mind

What felt right a few months ago might not feel right today. If you've been having second thoughts about your original university choice, your course, or even if university is for you, you're not alone. Many students use Clearing as a chance to find a path that truly excites them.

Clearing isn't just for those who missed their grades; it's also a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking for a fresh start or a different direction. Our Clearing courses span a wide range of subjects, and you might discover a degree you hadn't considered before that perfectly aligns with your interests or career goals.

Our friendly Clearing team is here to listen, not to push, and will chat through your thoughts, interests, and what you're hoping for from your university experience. Whether you've turned down your firm choice, are holding no offers, or are just starting to think about university, we can guide you through the process. Many students thrive after making a last-minute switch, and this could be the perfect moment to pivot towards a future that genuinely inspires you.

I haven't made an application for university yet

Clearing offers a direct, efficient path to join Winchester this September. You don't need a prior UCAS application either. Simply contact our Clearing Team to discuss available courses and assess your eligibility based on your qualifications. We will then talk you through the application process and get you ready to join in September.

I'm supporting my child through Clearing

If your child's university plans haven't gone exactly as expected, or if they're feeling unsure about their next steps, please know that Clearing is a legitimate, positive, and incredibly successful route to university.

Our clear and supportive Clearing process is designed to be straightforward. Our experienced advisors are calm, knowledgeable, and ready to guide your child – and you – through every step, from initial enquiry to accepting an offer. We look beyond exam results, focusing on your child's individual potential, passion for their subject, and overall drive, even if grades weren't what they hoped for.

Once enrolled, your child will benefit from extensive student support services, including wellbeing and career guidance, within our vibrant and safe campus environment. We also offer Foundation Year options for those seeking additional academic preparation, ensuring a strong start to their degree.

"I wanted to go somewhere a bit more local to me so within 45 minutes from home, and that’s how I found Winchester. I found that they offered creative writing with English Literature, which was something that I hadn’t necessarily considered. I never thought about doing Creative Writing before so I phoned up the friendly team at Winchester and they offered me a place, which I was really pleased to take…"
