Computational Science Research Group

About CSRG

Launched in  2023, the Computational Science Research Group (CSGR) brings together world-leading expertise from across the Department of Digital Technologies, the wider University and external partners to undertake research and knowledge exchange projects in the broad field of Computational Science and its applications.

We use computational science to address key societal challenges. Examples are healthcare (e.g. effective management of waiting lists and virtual wards, and computer modelling of human anatomy); environmental challenges such as the need for smart homes and green transport; AI and Cybercrime. Computational science can help provide effective solutions in all these areas and more.

Our areas of expertise

Our Aims

Specifically, we aim to:

To establish a proven research pedigree, including collaborative work with industry and national, European and international research initiatives, and to continue to make a significant contribution to society.

To become a research hub for Digital Health and to further  the University’s strategic partnership with the NHS to set up a UoW-based platform for medical applications of computer modelling.

To become a centre of excellence for large data analysis, statistical modelling and computation to explore ways to address the  UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  through cybercrime research, Co2 emission reduction etc.

To produce world-class research in relation to the design, development, implementation and evaluation of Technological Solutions.

To stimulate research-informed teaching practices, both to bring research impact into the classroom and to develop innovative practices for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
