You will develop knowledge of evidence-based guidelines, assessment strategies, and the application of exercise interventions in primary care and community settings. Emphasis is placed on personalising exercise prescriptions for diverse populations, monitoring patient outcomes, and integrating exercise as a core component of holistic patient care. You will engage in case-based learning, practical application, and critical discussions on the role of physical activity in long-term health management.

Course details
Lectures will cover the following general topic areas: Fundamentals of exercise physiology and health benefits of physical activity; role of exercise in chronic disease management (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, mental health); evidence-based exercise prescription guidelines (e.g., ACSM, NICE, WHO); screening, assessment, and risk stratification for exercise interventions; behaviour change strategies and patient adherence; interdisciplinary approaches to integrating exercise into healthcare; monitoring patient outcomes and adapting interventions; and ethical and professional considerations in exercise prescription.
To gain the credits students will be required to design a personalised exercise prescription plan around a specific service user case study.
